*Cancellation images: for all new stamp issues Royal Mail produces two First Day of Issue postmarks, the alternative to the Philatelic Bureau cancellation being shown here. In addition there are usually many sponsored postmarks for new issues, often of a pictorial nature reflecting the stamp designs. For each issue these can be seen by clicking on the Issue Title in column 2. The individual pages linked here will always be updated before this index page, so click on the title for the latest information.

Stamp images are normally released about 20 weeks before the issue.

Tuesday 9 January	The Beatles 1st class, 64p & 72p stamps, 2 of each value. Miniature sheet of 4 x 1st class with different designs. Discussion		All in self-adhesive sheets of 30 stamps of each value. Miniature sheet: water-activated gum.

Tuesday 16 January	Retail booklet: Love stamp Retail booklet containing 6 x 1st class stamps, one of which will be the Love Greetings stamp.	No First Day Postmark is expected as these designs have been issued before.	Booklet of 6 x 1st class stamps, initial selling price Ł1.92*

Tuesday 1 February	Sea Life of the British Coast 10 x 1st class stamps, including starfish, jellyfish, octopus, seal, crab.		Block of 10 x 1st class stamps (ten designs se-tenant) In sheets of 30.

Tuesday, 6 February	Lion and Shield Smilers Sheet	This date was announced in error: issue date is 23 April.

Thursday 13 February	The Sky at Night set of 6 showing Nebulae 1st class, 50p, 72p two designs in each value. The backing paper is printed with information about the subjects of the stamps. Discussion		In sheets of 30 self-adhesive in se-tenant pairs.

Thursday, 1 March	World of Invention Set of 6 stamps featuring cartoon views of various inventions. 1st class, 64p & 72p - 2 designs for each value. Also Miniature Sheet and Prestige Stamp Book Issue coincides with Spring Stampex Discussion		In sheets of 30 self-adhesive in se-tenant pairs; miniature sheet conventionally gummed..

Thursday, 1 March St David's Day	Glorious Wales Smilers Sheet The first self-adhesive Country Stamp. The Wales 1st class with 10 views of Wales. Captions in Welsh and English Issue coincides with Spring Stampex Discussion	Although a major variation on the already issued stamp, there was no official First Day Postmark. However other postmarks available for the Inventions stamps can be used on these	Sheet 20 x 1st, face value £6.40* sold for £6.95*

Thursday, 22 March	Abolition of the Slave Trade Set of 6 showing some of the most notable campaigners. 1st class, 50p & 72p - two designs in each value. Discussion		In sheets of 30 in se-tenant pairs.

Tues 27 March	Machin and Country definitives 16p pink Machin (2nd class make-up stamp); 48p rhododendron Machin (10gr Europe & postcard rate); 50p grey Machin (colour change only); 54p rust Machin (10gr & postcard worldwide air rate); 78p emerald (Worldwide 20gr letter rate) 48p (Oak tree) & 78p (rose) England 48p (Thistle) & 78p (Tartan) Scotland 48p (Daffodil) & 78p (Prince of Wales feathers) Wales 48p (lace) & 78p (Beleek porcelain) Northern Ireland	5 official postmarks for Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff, London and Windsor	All values in sheets of 200 The 46p yellow-gold is to be reissued; it will be from a new printing but is not regarded by Royal Mail as a new issue. 1st & 2nd class 'Large Letter' stamps will be issued in self-adhesive Business Sheets of 50

Thursday 17th May	Opening of Wembley Stadium Originally planned for Spring 2006, the revised version has a new date and new face values. Discussion		Miniature sheet: 1st class (World Cup 2002); 2 x 2nd , 2 x 78p England country stamps, original face value Ł2.38

Thursday 17th May	Wembley Stadium Smilers Sheet Labels show scenes from the history of the old Wembley Stadium.		First sold for Ł7.35, face value Ł6.80*

Tuesday 5 June	Machin definitive: 40th Anniversary Miniature sheet of 4 stamps Two 1st class commemoratives, existing Ł1 Machin, and new Ł1 ruby Machin definitives. There will also be a Smilers Sheet and Prestige Stamp Booklet, and a new retail book of 1st class Machins. Discussion		Sheet first sold for Ł2.68 Smilers Sheet for Ł7.35, face value Ł6.80*
