The Big Show
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Next weekend, World Stamp Expo 2000 opens in Anaheim for a
ten-day run. The show will feature stamp exhibits, collectors,
dealers and postal administrations from all over the world, as
well as space memorabilia from NASA. Admission is free.
Since this is the Postal Service's own show, it features the
issuance of SIX sets of space stamps...while other major stamp
shows this year are doing without first day ceremonies or
making do with mediocre stamps. The ones being issued in Anaheim
will include the first U-S stamp to be either a hologram or
circular -- there have been hologram stamped envelopes, but not
stamps -- as well as the first PENTAGON-shaped stamps from the
U-S. The circular hologram is an eleven-seventy-five Express
Mail stamp; the five pentagons a dollar each. Good luck finding
them in your post office!
The Postal Service announced it would run its own international
stamp shows shortly after there were problems with the privately-
run Pacific 97.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
