Going Global.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The head of the world body of stamp collecting is optimistic
about the future of the hobby.
"Many people say that the collecting of stamps is a dying
sports. We have to convince them that's not correct."
RUNS :06
Knud Mohr, president of the International Federation of
Philately, cites Asia, where stamp shows bring in half a
million people.
"In Europe, and in the States, the postal administrations
are a little afraid of those kinds of postal exhibitions,
because they say they cost too much money. We have to know
that the postal administration earns money EVERY time,
because they issue the stamps."
RUNS :10
Mohr, from Denmark, is confident children WILL continue to
collect stamps, and says if they have a "vaccination" of
stamp collecting now, they'll come back to collecting later
-- IF the postal administrations don't get greedy.
"Don't issue more stamps than the youngsters can afford to
buy all the new issues, because if they cannot afford it --
even if it's only one or two stamps a year they cannot
afford -- they will forget it."
RUNS :14
And that's stamp collecting this week.
