It's show time!
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The stamp show season used to match the school year, but no more. Now, some
of the year's biggest shows are held during the summer, partly to take
advantage of school vacations and attract families.
Next weekend is ROPEX, a big show in Rochester, New York. ROPEX used to be
held earlier in the year, but lost its location....so it's moved to a high
school fieldhouse that's empty for the summer.
The following weekend the American Topical Association -- for people who
collect stamps by subject -- has its annual convention in Denver. There are
also shows that weekend in California's Silicon Valley and Indianapolis.
In mid-July, there's a show in the Twin Cities, and at the beginning of
August, a big first day cover show in New Jersey, near New York.
But the biggest show of the year is the SECOND weekend in August, in
Columbus, Ohio. It's called, simply, "Stampshow."
You can get more information on the Web at stamps-dot-org.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
