Reading The Tea Leaves


The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.


The U-S Postal Service soon will tell us the subjects for most of the stamps
it will issue next year -- but it's always fun to guess.


We know there will be a Lunar New Year stamp, and it's the Year of the
Monkey. 


We also know there will be new entries in the Legends of Hollywood, Black
Heritage and Nature of America Series, and probably Literary Arts, but we
don't know exactly what they'll be.


Two Thousand Four is the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition, and
at least one stamp seems certain.


Artist Salvador Dali was born a century ago, and New York's Museum of Modern
Art is celebrating its centennial, too.


Next year is the 50th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court civil rights
ruling Brown versus Topeka, and while it's already been on a stamp, I
wouldn't rule it out.


The first trip by a steam locomotive was two hundred years ago, and the
first atomic-powered submarine, Nautilus, was launched 50 years ago.


And that's stamp collecting this week.
