Monkey-ing Around With Stamps

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

The Lunar New Year began a few days ago....Two Thousand Four, more or less, is the Year of
the Monkey. It's a twelve-year cycle, with each year named for a different animal.

Although it's an Asian holiday, it's not just Asian countries issuing stamps for it:
Australia, New Zealand, Canada -- and the U-S -- all have Lunar New Year series. Not
only are the stamps popular with collectors and customers at home, they're big sellers
with Asian collectors, and that's one of the hottest markets in stamp collecting these days.

For the U-S, the Year of the Monkey is the twelfth stamp in the series designed by Clarence
Lee, which made some of us wonder what the Postal Service was going to do next. And we now
have an answer: Next year, rather than stop the series or start a new one, it's going to
issue a special sheet with all 12 of Lee's designs.

And after that? My money is on a new series with a new designer. It's too good an opportunity
to pass up.

And that's Stamp Collecting this week. I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
