Urban Legend
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The power of a rumor is just amazing."
RUNS :02
It's a rumor the Postal Service just can't quash. An Internet message or newspaper story
says there will be no more black history stamps. Not true, says community relations
manager Cynthia Puryear.
"The Black Heritage commemorative stamp series is our...one of our most popular. It is
most certainly going to be continued."
RUNS :06
There's another variation...that says the Postal Service is destroying Black Heritage
stamps it's already issued.
"Absolutely not. It is not even our policy to destroy stamps while they remain available
for sale."
RUNS :05
Right now, there are two stamps in the series that should be on sale: Thurgood Marshall
from last year and Paul Robeson.
That there are rumors about the Black Heritage series and not others, such as Literary
Arts, probably shows the depth of feeling about this series.
It's just amazing how this keeps recirculating over and over and over again, and hitting
the same people over and over and over again."
RUNS :08
And that's Stamp Collecting this week. I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.

That there are rumors about the Black Heritage series and not others, such as Literary
Arts, probably shows the depth of feeling about this series. The Postal Service agrees
with that.
"It is something that we really enjoy doing. We are really committed to honoring the
achievements and contributions of these African-Americans on stamps."
RUNS :08
But the rumor lives on....
It's just amazing how this keeps recirculating over and over and over again, and hitting
the same people over and over and over again."
