Royal Wedding
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
We Americans are so preoccupied with the often-dysfunctional BRITISH royal family that
we often overlook Europe's other royalty, who go about their business without fuss and
for the most part off the world stage.
The exception is when there's a royal wedding. Then these countries roll out the fancy
uniforms, the ceremonies, the fireworks -- and the stamps.
Denmark recently celebrated the marriage of Crown Prince Frederik and Mary Elizabeth
Donaldson of Australia, who met during the Two Thousand Olympics in Sydney. According
to the press handouts, she didn't know at first he was a prince -- just like in the
movies.
To mark the occasion, Denmark's postal service issued two stamps featuring the couple,
plus a "mini-sheet" that incorporates both stamps.
There's an American connection, by the way: Prince Frederik received his bachelor's
degree in political science from Harvard, and Donaldson attended elementary school
in Texas while her father was working for NASA.
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
