An Elvis Sighting.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
"This is the first time ever that Elvis has been featured on a British stamp sheet" says
the press release from a private firm.
Not quite. Royal Mail, the British postal agency, hasn't issued Elvis Presley stamps. What
these are are those personalized stamps, where the customer can provide a photo or graphic
that will be printed on a stamp sheet....NEXT to the real stamps.
A number of countries are now providing these personalized stamp sheets. At first, a few
even went a step further, and put photos IN real stamps...but that usually required that
the postal agency take the photo itself, giving it more control over the contents of these
stamps...but also requiring more work.
The Elvis sheets produced by the British firm Benham actually consist of Love stamps, with
adjacent pictures of Elvis from his movies. The set will cost you about 33 dollars...but
they're not really Elvis stamps.
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
