Taking A Stand
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Go to your neighborhood news stand, and you'll find magazines for all sorts of
hobbies -- coins, cars, gardening, even knitting. But nothing for stamp collecting.
Now, Scott Stamp Monthly should be on the racks, with its return to a glossy
magazine
format after seven years as a tabloid newspaper.
"We had a lot of readers tell us that they preferred the magazine format and we
looked at the possibility of going into this new format after we saw some success
with some of our other titles."

The parent company also publishes magazines for coin and car collectors, says editor
Michael Baadke, and the hope is putting Scott on the racks will grab some casual
collectors who may not know that there ARE magazines for stamp collectors.
"It's being distributed to Borders and Barnes & Nobles and Hastings stores and also
some of the independent newsstands."

The subscribers are much happier, too, with the better color pictures.
That's Stamp Collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
