Postmarks of our times.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
You can put your "stamp" on significant events in your life by getting envelopes or cards
canceled in appropriate cities on important dates.
For example -- you can get envelopes canceled in "Winner, South Dakota" on Election Day,
or, if you prefer, Bush Louisiana or Cheney Nebraska or Edwards, Missouri. There doesn't
seem to be a town named "Kerry" anywhere, but maybe Boston would suffice..
Speaking of Boston....the cities involved in the World Series usually offer special
pictorial postmarks to commemorate the games.
It's practically free. Here's how it works: You put 37-cents postage on self-addressed
envelopes, and enclose them in larger envelopes addressed to the postmaster of the city.
If a special cancellation is offered, there may be a specific address -- try a search
online. If there ISN'T a special cancellation, just enclose a note specifying the date
you want. Unless you request a large number of postmarks, there's no charge.
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
