Shifting Sands

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries. 

When this year's stamps were announced last summer, Distinguished Marines appeared set 
for the spring, probably just before Memorial Day. Made sense, right? But no date has 
been announced, and we're hearing the stamps won't come out until November 10th -- the 
anniversary of the Marine Corps.

The Muppets stamps were also expected this Spring, but have now been put off until 
September.

The dates for other stamps this year, also in a state of flux. As they say, "you can't 
tell the players without a scorecard."

There happens to be a scorecard at virtual-stamp-club-dot-com that gets updated -- 
frequently.

There are several reasons for the uncertainty. One is that various interest groups and 
relatives push for particular dates -- such as Marine Corps Day. Another is to tie the 
release of the stamps to another event, to get more publicity for the stamps -- the 
Architecture stamps in May are coming out at the Architects convention, for example. 
The Advances in Aviation stamps this summer will take flight at a big air show in 
Wisconsin.
