By the book.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
If you collect U-S stamps, the bible is the Scott Postage Stamp Catalogues, edited by
Jim Kloetzel.
"We've always felt that we were the catalogue of record, if you will."
RUNS :04
Eighteen months ago, Scott Publishing's parent company bought out the only other stamp
catalogue publisher in the U.S.
But even before that, practically all the other stamp catalogues in this country used
the Scott catalogue numbers. It's a big responsibility.
"Anything you put down on paper and print is going to be taken very, very seriously."
RUNS :06
Besides the numbering and identification, the Scott catalogues assign values.
"The things that we do do influence the market very much."
RUNS :04
Kloetzel has many changes planned for the catalogues, but won't go into details.
"They tend to be things to be things that we're not going to talk about because they
might give people who know that information an inside edge"
RUNS :07
But watch for changes next year in the stamp booklets section.
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
