A Little Knowledge
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
It happens all the time: Someone finds or inherits a stamp collection, comes up with an
inflated idea of its value .... and suffers a severe letdown.
Sometimes it's because the person who assembled the collection boasted about how much it
was worth. Other times, it's because of a lack of information ....and maybe a little greed,
too.
There are often mi-nute differences between early stamps worth maybe ten bucks and
lookalikes worth thousands. When non-collectors see two varieties in the catalogue,
inevitably they assume they've got the valuable one.
The worst are the people who put these collections up for sale on eBay at really high
starting bids, and then cop an attitude when knowledgeable collectors try to tell them they
haven't found a pot of gold.
If you've inherited or found a collection and know nothing about stamps, get some help: Go
