Stamp collectors are proud that French president Nicholas Sarkozy is one of us.

The mainstream press isn't so sure.

Sarkozy is also president of the European Union right now. Recently, as he left a 
meeting about the worldwide financial crisis, a couple of copies of a French stamp 
collecting magazine slipped out of his portfolio.

Says a Times of London columnist, quote, "bang! There goes that jet-set image."

Ummm, wait a second. Sarko, as he's called, is married to Carla Bruni -- one of the 
top fashion models of the 1990s.

Some of the world's great leaders have been stamp collectors: Franklin Delano 
Roosevelt...King George the 6th, who led Britain through World War Two.

If that's not recent enough for that columnist, or hip enough, how about tennis 
champion Maria Sharapova? Astronaut Stephanie Wilson?

Stamp collecting can be a relaxing hobby... Just the thing to unwind after trying to 
save the world's economy. Or reading the Times of London.
