Seeking Springfield

Simpsons theme music ­ establish :04 and under

When a new stamp first goes on sale, the U-S Postal Service offers a special 
cancellation. For The Simpsons stamps, that postmark was Beverly Hills...even though 
the cartoon family lives in Springfield.

 "I'm trying to find all the different — as many different Springfields around 
 the country as I can."

Gary Denis is a collector from Lusby, Maryland. Envelopes — called "first day 
covers" -- could be canceled on that first day of sale anywhere in the country. The 
only problem is...

"D'Oh!"

--No one's sure WHICH Springfield the Simpsons live in.

"I believe there are about 25 different Springfields. I think 13 or 14 of them had 
special pictorial cancellations showing the characters."

But there may be envelopes canceled on May 7th from the dozen OTHER Springfields...and 
Denis hopes to get examples of ALL of them...eventually.

"Just as long as it takes, we'll just keeping looking for them, and sooner or later, 
something will come up and that's, that's the whole fun of the hobby."

He's also looking for postmarks from towns named Bart and Homer.
