Scouting Around
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The recent Celebrate Scouting stamp took me on a trip down memory lane. In fact, I took
out my box of Boy Scout patches and cards.
There was the patch for the Trekoree where bad maps got us all lost on the Appalachian
trail, scouts and leaders alike.
And a Klondike Derby patch. I don't remember much about that, except it was cold and there
was a lot of snow -- exactly as planned.
There was a Camporee patch showing the World's Fair symbols, which was held that year in my
part of the country.
There were several merit badges, although I couldn't find the stamp collecting merit badge.
And a couple of Totin' Chip cards for knife and ax safety. You always wanted an extra Totin'
Chip card in case your scoutmaster caught you playing with a knife and tore up your card.
I found my religious award....and the second class badge on which my scoutmaster drew swim
fins after I FINALLY passed the first class swim test.
Thanks for the memories, Postal Service.
