A Walk on the Wildlife Side
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries
Sometime in the next year, by law, the U-S will issue a new semi-postal stamp. What's that?
It's a stamp whose price is higher than a regular letter-rate stamp. Part of the money pays
for postage, and the rest goes to charity.
The first U-S semi-postal was the Breast Cancer Research Stamp a dozen years ago, which is
still on sale, thanks to Senator Diane Feinstein.
The Wildlife Conservation semi-postal is the result of a bill that sailed through Congress,
sponsored by Congressman Henry Brown, a Republican from South Carolina. According to Linn's
Stamp News, he EXPECTS it to show a tiger. He'd originally wanted the stamp to show tigers,
elephants, rhinoceroses, apes and sea turtles...all on a postage stamp-sized piece of art.
Other charities have asked for semi-postals to help them raise funds -- but they didn't have
a Member of Congress to help them cut to the front of the line.
