The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries

Canada is issuing a stamp for Baseball Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins, who was born in 
Ontario. The stamp kicks off Canada's Black History month.

Unlike the U-S, Canada honors people while they are still living. The stamp was announced 
in December on his 68th birthday.

Over 19 seasons, most of them with the Chicago Cubs, the right-handed pitcher compiled 
a 3-34 earned run average and more than 3-thousand strikeouts. He was a three-time 
All-Star, and won the National League Cy Young Award in 1971. He is the only Canadian in 
the Baseball Hall of Fame, and was the first baseball player to win Canada's Lou Marsh 
Trophy, which recognizes the country's top athlete

Jenkins is a member of the Order of Canada — the country's second highest honor — and a 
decade ago was awarded a spot on Canada's Walk of Fame. The main picture on the stamp is 
from his installation on the Walk, although there's also an image of him pitching for 
the Cubs.

Although he now lives in Arizona, Jenkins still supports many Canadian charities and was 
commissioner of Canada's short-lived Canadian Baseball League. He'll be making personal 
appearances in connection with the new stamp.
