Postage Stamps Will Stick Around

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries

With fewer people using stamps, will the U-S continue to ISSUE them? Yes, says Terry
McCaffrey, the former head of stamp design and development for the Postal Service.

"Knowing how things have changed over the past 20 years, with computer technology, that
certainly is impacting our business. But I still think there's a place for stamps. You
may not see as many on mail, but they'll become more collectible." :14

McCaffrey cites Britain's postal service, Royal Mail.

"They've designed their commemoratives just for the collectors and not for mail use. So
I think you'll see more of that. But I think there's still a place for stamps in this
world." :09

Stamps have come to be national symbols, a way for a country to trumpet its pride.

"It's an icon. Everybody knows what a postage stamp is. it's been ingrained in us for
many years. And I think even kids today, even though they may not use them, they know
what they are. So I think...it's part of our culture, it's not going to change." :12
