The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries

After nine years running the U-S Postal Service's program that chooses and produces stamps, 
Dave Failor moved to the United Nations Postal Administration. There are some similarities, 
but also some differences.

For instance, at the U-S agency, a 15-member Citizen Stamp Advisory Committee helps choose 
the stamp subjects and designs. At the U-N, Failor says, it's a smaller group.

"It's not outside people, it's people within the U-N system." :03

And while some U-N organizations have asked for stamps, the number of suggestions is much 
less. 

"I don't anticipate I'm going to see the kind of pressures that we would get from Congress 
or outside groups like I had at the U-S Postal Service."  :09

LdeV: "You're only working on 2012 program now? The U-S would be working on '14 or '15 by 
this point, right?"

DF: "Yeah, you know, like in the U-S, '12 would be done, '13's probably pretty close, 
probably working more on the artwork for '13 and all of that. It is quite a bit different 
here as far as how far out we reach. When you have basically 7 issues a year, you don't 
have the pressure of having to work three years out as much."

And Failor doesn't miss that.

"At the Postal Service, I'd be kind of freaking out right now if we didn't have most of 
the artwork done for 2012." :05
