The Stamp Collectors’ Bible

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

A catalogue is an important tool for stamp collectors. It gives an idea what stamps you
need or want, how much they’re worth, and more. In the U-S, the major reference is the
Scott Stamp Catalogue. New issues editor Marty Frankevicz says he doesn’t just take the
word of postal agencies.

“We review every stamp   we don’t list it”  :08

That involves actually buying one of each stamp.

“We do need actual stamps to get some of the basic information”  :04

And it confirms that the stamp actually exists. But getting his hands on all those stamps
can be a challenge.

“I deal with basically 250 different stamp issuing entities and each one of them kind of
does things differently than everybody else. Some countries, it’s really easy to get their
stamps, and other countries, a lot more difficult.”  :12

Also a problem for Marty Frankevicz and the Scott stamp catalogues are personalized postage
 stamps.

“Very difficult to get, because a lot of dealers.     and listable under our criteria...
can be very, very challenging.”  :14

The Scott catalogues are published by Amos Press. You can find them in some bookstores, at
stamp collecting shops and shows and online. Many public libraries also have a set.
