Looking ahead.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Some of the major stamp collecting stories this year will be hold-overs from 2012.
The U-S Postal Service can't turn a profit, because it's required to make an annual
five-and-half billion dollar payment to a benefits escrow fund. Don't look for any action
by Congress.
The Postal Service is also spending five million dollars for promotion of ten stamps this
year. The goal undoubtedly goes beyond just selling more of those stamps, but also creating
interest in stamp collecting -- or at least collecting new U-S stamps -- and showing that
the Postal Service DOES matter.
Britain has now confirmed it will issue a set of stamps for the long-running science fiction
television show Doctor Who, showing all 11 actors who have played the character.
There will also be a British Auto Legends set this summer, one of which is the Jaguar E-type,
while the U-S late next month issues five stamps depicting muscle cars of the 1960s and 70s.
