Celebrating a Time Lord -- all 11 of him!

Britain's Royal Mail postal agency is honoring the television series "Doctor Who" this
month on its 50th anniversary. He travels through time and space in a "tardis" which
looks like a blue British police box of the last century.
There are 11 stamps in the set, each portraying one of the actors who have played Doctor
Who. Most of them are still alive – that's allowed in Britain.
The first two (stamps) are black-and-white designs, as were the television shows back
then. There's also what's called a "miniature sheet" with five more stamps featuring the
tardis and some of villains. Just the 16 stamps will cost you more than 9 pounds — almost
14 dollars. Then there are stamp cards and presentation packs and more.
However, these stamps, and the related collectibles, aren't aimed primarily at stamp
collectors, but at "Whovians" – fans of the series. And there are many of them all over
the world.
When the stamps were officially announced around Christmas, they got a lot of press – even
in the U-S. The show has been broadcast in dozens of countries.
It should be a popular issue.
