The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Some collectors complain about the stamps being issued. "I never liked him" – "I don't
think that's art" – "There are too many stamps in that set."

There's a simple answer: Don't collect them.

Stamp collecting is a very democratic hobby: You decide what goes in your collection,
and what doesn't. Many people only collect stamps issued before 19-40. Others, stamps
with a certain subject, like flowers or trains. Or stamps showing cities they've
visited.

Your restrictions can be serious or silly, broad or narrow. There are no Stamp Police.
No one should tell you what to collect.

Of course, if your criteria are obscure — such as only stamps featuring left-handers —
or you're missing stamps in a series because you just didn't like them – your material
may not sell for as much as a more traditional collection. Your exhibit may not win top
awards.

But then, that's not why most of us collect anyway.
