Pushing the envelope.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The National Postal Museum has a new exhibit on the complicated relationship between
the U-S and China, as told by stamps and mail. Titled "Pacific Exchange," it includes
many items that have never been on public display before.
It runs until next January, but not everyone can get to Washington to see the exhibit.
You don't have to: The museum has put it on the Internet, too. Go to
postal-museum-dot-s-i-dot-e-d-u.
The National Postal Museum is part of the Smithsonian complex of museums, galleries
and more. and last fall, curator Cheryl Ganz told me it's recognized as a leader within
the Smithsonian for embracing new technology.
"One of the officials told me last night there is nothing like this anywhere in the
Smithsonian.”
RUNS :05
There are other exhibits on the website... as well as an online database called Arago,
where you can get specific information about individual stamps as well as postal operations.
Arago is a little hard to find right now, but you can go to Arago -- that's
A-R-A-G-O dot s-i-dot-e-d-u or plug Arago into the search box on the Postal museum site.
