Holy Postage Stamps!

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Being on a postage stamp is quite an honor, even if you’re a fictional character. That’s
how the people in charge of the Batman comic books, like co-publisher, Dan DiDio feel.

“For me personally it felt like this moment, you know, from the movie “Miracle on 34th
Street?” when the stamp— the Postal Service validates the existence of Kris Kringle”
RUNS :08

And seeing the eight new Batman stamps was a thrill for co-publisher and artist Jim Lee,
too.

“I never really imagined that some day I’d see my Batman artwork immortalized, not once,
but twice, on U.S. postage stamps, first in 2007 as part of the DC Comics Superheroes
stamp set, and now here again today.” RUNS :14

But here’s a surprise...

“Bruce Wayne, Batman, is a stamp collector.” RUNS :02

Jim Cochrane of the Postal Service says, like many of us, Bruce Wayne was introduced to
stamps by his father.

“Stamp collecting played an important role in the childhood of Bruce Wayne, who shared
the hobby with his father in the pages of comic books during the 50s — we did a lot of
research on this!” RUNS :03

In fact, you can see Bruce Wayne looking at his collection in at least one episode of
the 1960s T-V show.
