Putting her stamp on the U-S Postal Service.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Mary-Anne Penner is the new head of the stamp program for the U-S Postal Service. She
calls it a wonderful job.
“It’s the dream job of the Postal Service. It has our biggest impact I think with
philatelists and the general public” :07
The best parts of the job?
“Dealing with people, working on relationships, trying to see what the American public
wants, working with the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee.” :06
Also important is knowing she has the support of new Postmaster General Megan Brennan.
“She likes stamps!” :01
She has one overriding goal in this job.
“I will try and make the U-S stamp program the top stamp program in the world.” :04
And you won’t see the phrase “limited edition” tossed about for every postal product.
“Limited edition to me is actually numbering something and making it truly limited.” :05
But quantities WILL be limited…. Something some of her predecessors didn’t quite have a
handle on
“We’re going to start looking at forecasting and seeing what’s the right quantity, what’s
the right print run and what’s the right distribution of the stamps.” :08
Penner wants to see what other countries are doing.
“If other countries have solutions, why can’t we take their best practices and see what
we can do with the United States, and try and see how they work through some of their
issues :08
Already, stamp collectors like what they’re hearing.
