What’s ahead at U-S post offices.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The U-S Postal Service has filled out the rest of its new stamp program for 20-16…
although it will probably add a few issues as the year progresses.
The headliners for most people are Shirley Temple and Star Trek. The most successful
child star of all time will be this year’s entry in the Legends of Hollywood series,
and although the Postal Service took pains to tell us about her diplomatic work, the
stamp shows her as a cute 7-year-old.
You won’t see the old OR young Captain Kirk in the four Star Trek stamps. Instead of
the stars, we’ll see the Starship Enterprise, the Vulcan salute and the silhouette of
an anonymous crew member on a transporter pad. Probably saved on rights fees.
Real space buffs should be thrilled, too: To celebrate the major international stamp
show in New York in May, we’re getting ten different stamps featuring the planets.
Other crowd pleasers include pickup trucks, jack o’lanterns, and soda fountain favorites.
There are holiday stamps, including both a Madonna and Child and a Nativity scene. There
are also new designs for Hanukkah, Eid and Kwanzaa.
We’d already been told about the stamps for Sarah Vaughan, preacher Richard Allen, the
Lunar New Year and Pets, among others.
There’s something for everyone this year.
