[Stamp Collecting's Renaissance Man]
Another feather for John Hotchner's cap.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Hotchner is the president of the American Philatelic
Society, the 57-thousand member organization for stamp
collectors, as well as the author of a weekly column on
U-S stamps in Linn's Stamp News, the nation's biggest
stamp newspaper. Now he's joining the Citizen Stamp
Advisory Committee, the group that screens stamp subjects
and designs for the Postal Service.
RUNS=:14
"I think I have a pretty good feel after writing for LINN'S
and corresponding with stamp collectors the last 20 years,
I think I have a pretty good feel for what the collecting
community likes and doesn't like, and I hope to be able to
bring that perspective to the committee."
Hotchner also finds time to exhibit his own collection,
edit a magazine, and advise the National Postal Museum,
he's married with 4 grown children, and he's a top official
in the State Department's Passport Office. How does he do
it all?
RUNS=:05
"[laughs] Focus. I do what I do very intensely."
And he doesn't need as much sleep as most of us.
That's Stamp Collecting this week.
