Do you belong to any philatelic organizations?
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries
Whatever or however you collect, there's a club or society
for it. There are hundreds of stamp clubs in communities
ll over the country, and national societies for specialties
ranging from Air Mail to Disinfected Mail to Tin Can
Mail and Zeppelins.
Local clubs give you a chance to meet other collectors in
your area, swap stamps and stories, and get hands-on help.
The national societies often focus on narrow subjects. The
bigger ones hold annual conventions and meetings, where
you can see that you're not the only collector of
left-handed midgets on stamps. They communicate through
their publications and now the Internet.
The umbrella group for all this is the American Philatelic
Society, which publishes a monthly magazine, offers
collector insurance, and a sales circuit program -- an
easy way for collectors to buy and sell stamps.
To find out more about collector societies, contact the
American Philatelic Society in State College, Pennsylvania,
or send me email at stamps at p-o-box-dot-com.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
