Groovy stamp subjects next year.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries

In polling conducted this past May, the public chose the
subjects for the postage stamps celebrating the 1960s.

The subjects picked range from science to fiction....but
reality won.

"What topped the list was 'Man walks on the Moon,' and it
was followed closely by Super Bowl kicks off and the
Peace Symbol"

Postal Service marketing manager Valorie Vargo says pop
culture, like "Star Trek," the Beatles and the Barbie
Doll, was also popular.

"People want to see little slices of Americana on stamps.
They're used to seeing Presidents and statesmen, and
they're look for something that's a little more relevant
and contemporary."

In Sports, the Green Bay Packers. who won that first
Super Bowl, also get their own stamp. Other subjects
chosen include the Vietnam War, the "I Have A Dream Speech,
" Woodstock, and Roger Maris. Some of the losers were the
Kennedys, the Great Society, Motown, Pop Art and
Environmental Awareness.

The fifteen winners will be issued next June.

And that's stamp collecting this week.
