November 20-21, 1999:
Finding a dealer.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
There are many opportunities to buy and sell stamps by mail
or on the Internet, or you can visit a stamp show in your
area. But if you want to find a dealer in your town with a
store or office, the best place to look is the Yellow Pages:
Look under "Stamps for Collectors."
Don't be afraid to ask if the dealer is a member of the
American Philatelic Society or American Stamp Dealers
Association and feel free to call those organizations to
confirm the membership.
Or let's say, for example, you want a dealer specializing
in...Danish stamps, whether local or not. There are
classified ads in the stamp newspapers, and once a year,
LINN'S STAMP NEWS publishes its own yellow pages.
You can also go to the Internet: The A-P-S and A-S-D-A both
have online directories that let you specify a specialty OR
location -- in case you're visiting another city and want to
spend some time at a stamp store. The A-P-S is at
stamps-dot-org and the A-S-D-A is A-S-D-A-online-dot-com.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
