Old News.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Just the other day, the Postal Service announced it was
unveiling the Patricia Roberts Harris Black Heritage stamp
at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
The stamp was issued two-and-a-half months ago. Anyone
who really wants to see what it looks like can go to a
post office and plunk down thirty-three cents.
Several times a week, unveilings like this are held
around the country, for stamps that were issued weeks
AND months earlier.
The purpose of these unveilings is publicity, as well as
community relations. In fact, the Postal Service last year
combined the two operations into one department. Not only
do the new or not-so-new stamps get local press, it's a
chance to involve local politicians and celebrities.
Now, anything that tells more people about stamps and stamp
collecting is fine with me, and I think these unveilings
are great. But if you want to find out when new stamps are
being issued, there are a number of places on the Internet
to look, including mine: delphi-dot-com-slash-stamps.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
