All in the Family.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Fifteen-year-old Heather Lazaroff is running for the Board
of Directors of the American Ceremony Program Society...the
group that collects the souvenirs handed out at launch
ceremonies for new stamps.
That's not surprising, because her father, Chris, is the
King of First Day Ceremonies: He's attended them in 37 of
the 50 states, and is aiming for all 50. You might say he
collects first day ceremonies.
Last month, his 12-year-old daughter, Jennifer, was a guest
speaker at a first day ceremony in California, for the Deep
Sea Creatures stamps. It kicked off a promotion aimed at
children, and Jennifer wants to be a marine biologist. That
ceremony was her 42nd in 21 states, going back to when she
was five months old.
The family hails from northeastern Ohio, but they've been
as far afield as Alaska.
In her speech, Jennifer said she likes going to ceremonies
with her father, because it's something the whole family
does together -- Chris, Jennifer, Heather and their mother,
Denise.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
