Not so fast!

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Internet postage was the coming thing. They said we'd all
soon be printing our own postage imprints right on our
envelopes, filling up our personal computers and turning
them into high-priced postage meters.

This, when many people still can't program their V-C-R's or
don't even HAVE computers.

Recently, we saw signs that perhaps these forecasts were a
tad optimistic. E-Stamp, one of the first companies, decided
to pull out this past week. Stamps-dot-com issued a press
release saying that shows it's the preferred system.

But Stamps-dot-com has had problems of its own, with a
merry-go-round of top executives and a stock price that's
fallen NINETY-SIX percent in a year.

Besides, it's much easier to tuck a booklet of stamps into
your shirt pocket.

Sure, I think eventually everyone WILL be printing his or
her own postage on envelopes...just not right away.

Meanwhile, now's a great time to get in on the ground floor
and start a collection of Internet postage imprints.

And that's stamp collecting this week.

I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
