December 30-31, 2000:
The catalogue of the future.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The Scott Catalogues are the standard for collectors in this
country, but if you want a single country, it can be
expensive.
"Instead of having to buy, let's say, Volume 3 for Germany,
and paying $35, you'll be able to get Germany and download
it on the Web."
[RUNS :10]
Scott Publishing's Stuart Morrissey says that should make
collectors happy.
"That way, you can update all your information every year
and get the information you REALLY want, at a much cheaper
price."
[RUNS :07]
Because of the cost, not every collector buys a new edition
every year.
"Yes, of course, you have those very regular customers who
buy the catalogue every year, but then, there are many buyers,
and these are probably over 50%, who buy the catalogue every
three years."
[RUNS :11]
Scott would like to sell them a new edition EVERY year.
This way, we can sell more people more information but we can
sell them the information that they really want and need."
[RUNS :07]
And it should happen in 2001.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
