Dec. 23-24, 2000:
Celebrate Christmas all year.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
While some people will be only too glad when the holidays are
over, others wish Christmas would last longer. For some stamp
collectors, it does: They collect Christmas stamps, either
from around the world or just the ones issued by the U-S.
They even have a national society, the Christmas Philatelic
Club, and a newsletter called "The Yule Log."
We've put together a gallery of some of this year's Christmas
stamps at Virtual-Stamp-Club-dot-com
Collecting stamps by subject is called Topical collecting.
You can make your theme as broad or as narrow as you want
-- perhaps by sticking to certain countries, or certain
years. Of course, a collection of Religion On Stamps is
going to be much bigger than Christmas on stamps....so
choose your topic with that in mind.
There's a national organization for collecting by subject --
the American Topical Association, based in Albuquerque -- and
it can help put you in touch with the dozens of specialties
societies.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
