July 21-22, 2001:
Ten Days In August
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Except for the rate-change stamps, this has been a fairly
quiet year for new U-S stamps. Most of them have been spaced
out around the calendar.
But then there's the first ten days of next month, which will
see three stamps.
First is the new Woody Wagon coil Friday, August Third at the
Americover stamp show in Denver. This will be a bulk-rate
stamp, featuring those wood-sided station wagons...and a number
of the antique autos will be at the show. Junk mailers have
found that we pay more attention to envelopes with stamps on
them, (so watch for these on your mail.)
The following Monday, the Lucille Ball stamp is being issued in
Hollywood, and it's likely several celebrities who knew her will
attend the ceremony. It's open to the public, as is the
Americover show in Denver, and some avid collectors will make a
weekend of it and hit both.
Then on the 9th, the following Thursday, the Amish Quilts stamps
will be issued in Napanee, Indiana where 70-thousand people are
expected at the Amish Acres Arts & Crafts Festival
And that's stamp collecting this week.
