Wedding Invitation Blues
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Some new postal rates went into effect at the beginning of
the month. For most of us, that just means an extra penny to
send postcards home from vacation.
But August is a popular month for weddings, which means that
JULY is a popular month for mailing wedding INVITATIONS -- and
there's no 57-cent stamp to cover the two-ounce rate.
There are stamps that will make up 57 cents, but not really
anything with a Love theme. Usually, the postal service has a
two-ounce Love stamp, but the one issued last February, Love
Letters, is only 55 cents. The current two-cent stamp is a
woodpecker...so lovebirds might opt for the three-cent
bluebird instead.
Or you might ask a local stamp dealer for sheets of a 32-cent
Love stamp and a 25-cent Love stamp. If you shop around, you
might even be able to get them at face value.
As for postcards, there already is a new 21-cent stamp, issued
earlier this year for the short-lived second-ounce rate.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
