A Royal Perk
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
When fourteen-year-old Ontario ninth-grader Kirsten Ollies learned that
Queen Elizabeth was going to visit Toronto, she wanted to meet Her Majesty.
Officials turned her down twice. Then...
"I told them that I had a stamp collection of her. They thought it'd be cool
to see what exactly that was."
RUNS :07
Her award-winning stamp exhibit on Queen Elizabeth was part of the Festival
of Ontario earlier this month, and as the monarch made her way through the
fair, she stopped to talk with Kristen.
"I said 'Hi,' and I told her that I had a biography of her using stamps and
she said 'Stamps?' and she stepped in and look at what she could and then
stood back. I gave her an angel and she said 'thanks.'"
RUNS :11
It was a big moment for Kristen, who moved to Milverton, Ontario, from
Pennsylvania a few years ago.
I was very excited. At that point I wasn't shaking, but after that I was
quite amazed and impressed at what I had accomplished
RUNS :08
The Queen's own stamp collection will be on exhibit in Washington this
summer.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
