Getting The Wright Postmarks
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Later this month, the one hundredth anniversary of the Wright Brothers flight will be
celebrated...but not with a stamp. Because the anniversary is so late in the year, and
the area where the flight took place will be so busy this month, the Postal Service
issued its centennial stamp last May.
There WILL be special postmarks, either available during the celebrations in North
Carolina or by mail. Just send a self-addressed envelope or card with the proper postage
-- perhaps this year's stamp -- to Powered Flight Postmark...Postmaster....and either
Kill Devil Hills 27948 or Kitty Hawk 27949. Add 9-9-9-8 to the zip code.
You can use older U-S stamps on a project like this, just as long as they add up to 37
cents for envelopes and 23 cents for postcards. The U-S also issued stamps for earlier anniversaries..Most are still reasonably priced.
And that's stamp collecting this week. I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
<You actually have until mid-January to send in your requests.
By the way, the actual flight took place in Kill Devil Hills...but the Wrights had to go
to Kitty Hawk to telegraph their announcement....so the location was recorded
as...Kitty Hawk.
