Early Start
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
When the Postal Service first outlined its 2004 stamp program, the Nature of America series
entry, Pacific Coral Reefs, was slated for next October.
The Nature series spotlights the ecology of certain scenic parts of the country with colorful
sheets of stamps showing the flora and fauna of those areas. The 10 stamps on each sheet,
along with the background, make up one picture. Previous entries have been a desert, prairie,
forests and the Arctic.
The new sheet shows an underwater scene from Guam, partly to appease Guam's former delegate to Congress, who'd insisted on a stamp for the territory. He's gone, and now the stamps are
being launched in Hawaii.
About a month ago, the Postal Service moved up the date of issue for Coral Reefs...moved it
up A LOT. It's now scheduled for January 2nd.
The Postmaster General doesn't go to many stamp ceremonies, but he's scheduled for this one.
January. New Year's Weekend. Hawaii.
....Nice trip!
And that's stamp collecting this week.
