The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The new stamps are called Let's Dance....
Goodman "Let's Dance" music
establish and under, fade out
....but no, it's not the Benny Goodman theme, but four Latin Dances: Merengue, Cha-Cha, Salsa
and Mambo...
Tito Puente "Mambo" music
establish and under
The four stamps coming out next weekend celebrate not only the dance steps but the contributions
of Latin culture to the United States, the Postal Service says. The designs draw on stylized
paintings by four Latino artists.
The text on the back of the stamps gives a little history of each dance, in both English and
Spanish. Unfortunately, there were a few errors in the Spanish punctuation in the first printing,
and 70 million stamps and nearly a million matching postcards had to be destroyed.
One of the ceremonies launching the stamps will be at New York's Copacabana nightclub, the other
in Miami's Cocoanut Grove.
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
