The Sound of Stamps

MUSIC: The Hills are alive....
establish and under
Those hills in The Sound of Music were in Austria, the home of the Trapp Family. Some forty
years after the movie and EIGHTY years after the events portrayed, it's still a big tourist
draw for Austria.
"We have 800,000 visitors each year, coming to the city of Salzburg, not because of Mozart,
but because they want to see the original places of the movie."

Many of those tourists come from the U-S. So, says Erich Haas of Austria's post office, his
agency has put together a Trapp Family package with a C-D of the music, played by a postal
orchestra...
"Many of the musicians are employees of Austrian Post."

....nine stamps showing the story's locations in Austria, and a booklet in both English and
JAPANESE.
"In Japan, also in South Korea, this is part of the English lessons in the schools. They
learn English by listening to 'Sound of Music.'"

The set was very popular in Austria last year.
"So we decided that we should also bring it close to the American public as well."

It makes a good souvenir to take home from Salzburg, says Haas ....or you can order it online
at post-dot-A-T.
