Red or Blue?
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
As presidential politics heats up, it’s only natural to wonder... where in the political
spectrum are stamp collectors?
The answer is, “all over the place.”
Several prominent collectors have been or are Members of Congress, on both sides of the
aisle. Conservative strategist Karl Rove is one of us, too.... but I also know a liberal
social activist.
The image of ordinary-folk stamp collectors is of stodgy old white
guys — a misconception! — but that would suggest Red States. However, the biggest
concentration of stamp collectors in the U-S is in the Northeast, which tends to be Blue
States. And for more than 30 years, there have been stamp collecting organizations which
specialize in African-American and Gay and Lesbian subjects.
One position most stamp collectors take, though: We try not to discuss politics at stamp
collecting events.
Besides, as someone said online, for us the question is... carmine or ultra-marine?
