Elvis has returned to the building.

There’s a new U-S Elvis Presley stamp, part of the Music Icons series that has already
honored Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Lydia Mendoza, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.

The U-S Postal Service likes to tell you that its 1993 Elvis Presley stamp was its best
selling and most collected stamp ever. But certainly far more copies were sold of the
common stamps we saw on letters in our childhood, like the 4-cent purple Lincoln. However,
those weren’t commemorative stamps, like the Elvis one 22 years ago.

And most collected? Many sheets of Elvis were stashed away as investments for 20 years....
and coming back on the market for pretty close to face value... and being used as POSTAGE.

The cynical would say the U-S is issuing another Elvis Presley stamp for the money and
attention, but there’s certainly no denying that he IS an icon of American music, and a
dominant figure in popular culture in the mid 20th century.
