Lenny, Lucy and Snoopy.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
I got a sneak peak recently for next year's U-S stamp
program... and it looks as if it's going to be a lot of fun.
The headliners appear to be Lucille Ball, Leonard Bernstein
and the Peanuts comic strip. (That stamp shows Snoopy flying
his doghouse.) It comes just after cartoonist Charles
Schulz's death, but chief stamp designer Terry McCaffrey says
that only hastened the stamp.
"We're honoring more the fact that it's the 50th anniversary
around this time-frame of his strip and that he made such a
great contribution to the American society through this
cartoon."

Another stamp will promote awareness of a disease...
"Diabetes: We have received thousands and thousands, probably
150,000, suggestions for that particular stamp."

...but it won't be a charity stamp. Other highlights next year
are Illustrators, reproductions of the famous Pan Am invert
errors, classic baseball stadiums, and carnivorous plants. A
Porky Pig stamp will mark the end of the Looney Tunes series, because...th-th-th-that's all folks.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
